The Fire Marshal's Office is staffed by five individuals.  The Fire Marshal, Assistant Fire Marshal, and  Fire Inspectors are all certified as firefighters by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection and peace officer's by T.C.L.O.S.E..  We also hold other certifications such as arson investigators, fire inspectors, fire service instructors, haz-mat technicians, and fire service field examiners.  The secretary is responsible for the scheduling of all activities and processing of reports.

We have experienced tremendous growth in our community.  In 2003, new construction permits totaled $91,027,975.00.   The Fire Marshal's Office reviews all new and existing buildings, permits, plans, subdivision plans, and plats to insure compliance with Fire and Life Safety Code requirements applicable within the City of Edinburg.

A major part of the public education program is the Fire Safety Team.  The team is composed of five Fire Prevention Clowns, numerous puppets, and the road crew.  The team is made up of the Fire Marshal's Office staff and Edinburg Volunteer Firefighters.  The Fire Safety team each year visits over 28 schools and reaches approximately 25,000 students.

The Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District and the Edinburg Fire & Burn Prevention Office work together to promote fire safety.  We have developed the fire safety education program to reach all the students.  Also, all district buildings built recently are fully sprinklered and some older school buildings have been retrofitted with sprinklers.  So far approximately 80% of the schools are sprinklered with an eventual goal of 100%.
