We are always looking for good people to volunteer as firefighters with the Edinburg Volunteer Fire Department.

No experience is necessary.

General Membership Requirements:
Any citizen 18 years of age or older, who lives within 5 miles of an Edinburg fire station and not within another city's jurisdiction may apply for membership.  Applicants must satisfactorily pass an investigation committee.  Applicants that meet the above requirements are then voted on for membership into the fire department by the members of the volunteer organization.   Note:  If the applicant is a high school student he or she must maintain their grades above passing.

Training:
The Edinburg Volunteer Fire Department understands that training and development is a vital part of being a volunteer firefighter.  Training is conducted for all volunteers every Monday evening.  During this training, volunteers participate in various scenarios and classroom instruction conducted by fellow volunteers and other fire service instructors.

The fire department strongly recommends and will assist volunteers who are interested in attending additional training given by local fire departments or specialized classes in the region.  Each year the Edinburg Volunteer Fire Department sends volunteers to Texas A&M University Fire School.  The training given at the fire school exposes our volunteers to techniques and trade secrets from other parts of the state and the nation.

Benefits:
Edinburg Volunteer Firefighters Relief and Retirement Fund.
A pension system is provided for Edinburg volunteer firefighters upon completing twenty accredited years and meeting the age requirement as set out in the pension plan.
